Parent Shape Script (Maya)

I wrote a little python script to automate the process of parenting a shape node to an object as this feature currently isn’t available in the maya ui for some reason. It is very useful for cleaning up objects that you want to exist independently but underneath one common transform node. At the moment the script only works in maya 2011 but I will update it soon.

You can download it through creative crash:

All you need to do is select to objects and run the script from maya’s script editor (you can also add it to the shelf by ย selecting the script, holding down ctrl-shift-alt and left click dragging it onto the shelf). I will write up an break down of what the script does if anyone is interested in a basic primer.

Texture of the Week: Music Book Page (circa 1920) (part 1 of 2)

This week high-resolution texture comes from a book of music published around the 1920’s, perhaps earlier. The high-resolution file is already on a transparent background, and is true to the original document (I have done no colour tweaking etc)

Part 2 of the music collection coming next week ๐Ÿ™‚

Storyboard Template

If you are looking for a storyboard template here is a really simple one I made for a project I am currently working on. Its 2 up on a page, 16×9 cels. Has space for a shot code and a description. I need to figure out a way to upload psd’s so that I can make the actual template with all the masks available. Simplest way to use this one would be to drop it on a A4 photoshop document and set the layer to multiply, lock it and draw underneath.

Some Lonehill Inspiration

I thought I would post these two music videos as inspiration. They are both by the same band but the styles are quite different both musically and visually, and definitely worth watching.

Oh and the band is Lonehill Estate, and they are proudly South African ๐Ÿ˜€

Fixing Pen Tablet Stroke Lag in Photoshop (or other apps) in Windows 7

Windows 7 has Pen and Touch Capabilities built in, which is awesome unless you want to actually draw something with your wacom or similar device in Photoshop, Illustrator, CAD etc. The problem is that a lot of the pen tablet drivers conflict with the Windows 7 pen / tablet-pc functionality. The best solution I have found is to disable the Windows 7 “Tablet PC Input Service” and then everything works without a lag.

Please note this method will disable native functionality related to this service (like “press and hold for right click”), but if you are reading this article you probably want to get rid of it anyway. I also recommend creating a system restore point. It is however unlikely anything will go wrong unless one disables the wrong service.

Lastly I take no responsibility if anything goes wrong I am just supplying the steps I took to rectify the problem ๐Ÿ™‚

That being said here we go:

Step 1:
Click on the Start button then click on Control Panel
Click on Start then Control Panel

Step 2:
Click System And Security on the top left hand corner of your Control Panel
Click on System and Security

Step 3:
Click Administrative Tools
Click on Administrative Tools

Step 4:
Click Services
Click on Services

Step 5:
In the Services window, scrolls down to Tablet PC Input Services and double click it
Click on Tablet PC Input Services

Step 6:
In the properties window that opens, click the Stop button
Click the stop button

Step 7:
Change the Startup type to Disabled
Change startup type to disabled

Step 8:
Click the OK button
click ok button

Step 9:
Restart your design applications or preferably reboot.

And that is all there is to it! If you wish to re-enable this service repeat the process and change the startup type “Automatic” and click “Start” then “OK” and it will be re-enabled

Thanks for reading! ๐Ÿ™‚
